We think #1 is harsh!
- by Fraser Gilbert
It’s that time of year again where we not only celebrate the best games of the year, but also look at the worst games of the year — and the latter is exactly what Metacritic has been highlighting over the past couple of days.
In their list of the 10 worst games from across the industry, they’ve picked out the lowest-scoring titles on their platform that have at least four professional reviews. They all have to have released between January 1st and December 31st of 2025, and if a single game would have appeared multiple times across multiple platforms, they’ve just highlighted the lowest-scoring version.
Here are the 10 worst rated video games of 2025 according to Metacritic:
- MindsEye – 28 (PS5)
- Fire Emblem Shadows – 37 (iOS)
- Blood of Mehran – 38 (PS5)
- Spy Drops – 39 (PC)
- Gore Doctor – 40 (PS5)
- Tamagotchi Plaza: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition – 43 (Switch 2)
- Ambulance Life: A Paramedic Simulator – 44 (PS5)
- QUByte Classics: Glover – 44 (PS5)
- Scar-Lead Salvation – 44 (PS5)
- Fast & Furious: Arcade Edition – 45 (PS5)
As you can see, none of the games in this list have “(Xbox)” next to them, and that’s mostly because Xbox titles aren’t reviewed as often as PS5, PC and Switch versions these days.
You also can’t filter on Metacritic for anything that has less than seven professional reviews for Xbox, and therefore we can’t make an comparative list for the Xbox platform. For what it’s worth, MindsEye has a rating of 33 for Xbox.
That would appear to make it the worst-rated game on Xbox as well, with Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles and Fast & Furious Arcade Edition being the first ones that show up in the search engine with a rating of 55 each.
Now, it’s probably no surprise that MindsEye has taken the crown for the worst-rated video game of 2025, but we (and really I mean “I”) think that’s a bit harsh! There’s fun to be had with MindsEye if you go in with the right expectations, and the team has been working hard since launch to improve the experience and eliminate as many bugs as possible.

How Metacritic Scores Influence Game Sales and Studio Reputation
Metacritic remains a powerful metric not only for gamers but for publishers and developers. Low Metacritic scores can considerably affect a game’s commercial prospects and impact future funding or project greenlights for studios. Negative reviews often translate into reduced player trust and lower engagement, making quality control crucial for long-term success.
Case Study: The Fallout of “Shadow realm: Collapse”
“Shadow Realm: Collapse”, the lowest-scoring game of 2025 with a dismal 29 score, saw a drastic drop in sales within weeks of release. Despite high anticipation, the unplayable bugs and broken gameplay mechanics led to mass refunds and critical backlash. The studio publicly apologized and promised extensive patches, but the damage to their reputation was significant, serving as a stark reminder of how vital first impressions are in today’s gaming market.
Firsthand accounts: Gamers on the Worst Titles of 2025
Many gamers shared their personal experiences, revealing deep disappointment caused by these titles:
- “I was really excited for Galactic Drift but ended up quitting after just a few hours. The missions are so repetitive, and I couldn’t get attached to the story.” – Anonymous Player
- “Zombie Paradise: Last Breath has awesome potential but terrible AI made it frustrating, not fun.” – Forum User on Reddit
- “For a game released in 2025, Ghost Hunters: Legacy’s clunky UI felt like a step back from games a decade ago.” – Twitter Gamer Review
Don’t expect a masterpiece, but now that it’s in the bargain bin and in a better state than at launch, don’t be surprised if you end up low-key enjoying this one. It might have reviewed horribly at launch, but it’s not irredeemable by any means.
